Terrorists Targeting Telegram to Seek Crypto Donations

Terrorist groups such as ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Hamas are utilizing social channels to get funds in cryptocurrency, said by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), a US-based press monitoring and analysis organization. 

“The Coming Storm – Terrorists Using Cryptocurrency.” article has recently been published by MEMRI, noted that terrorist groups are targeting messaging app Telegram. It said “MEMRI research has found that the main platform for terrorist fundraising today is the encrypted messaging app Telegram – terrorists’ ‘app of choice,”

The news come after Telegram introduced Telegram Open Network (TON) and Gram token. “Counterterrorism officials need to be prepared for the coming explosion of terrorist use of Telegram’s cryptocurrency,” it noted.

According to the report, bitcoin addresses of these terrorist groups have been published on social media platforms such as Telegram, Facebook, Twitter, and more. Details of how to donate are also included. The digital currencies that are generally used by these groups include bitcoin, Dash, Ethereum, Monero, Verge, Zcash, and others.
